HYDROSEEDING CARE AND WATERING GUIDE

WELCOME TO HYDROSEEDING CARE

Congratulations on your newly hydroseeded lawn! While the seeding process is complete, your journey to a lush, healthy lawn is just beginning. Below are detailed guidelines to help your lawn establish strong and vibrant growth. Your Hydroseeding application contains grass seed that requires a continuous supply of moisture. This moisture must come from rainfall or watering. It is not likely that it will rain every day for the next week or two, so be sure to water frequently enough to keep moisture in the soil.

General Expectations

  • Hydroseed takes time to grow – you will not see grass immediately.
  • Expect germination in 10–14 days, a mowable lawn in about 5–8 weeks, and a fully established lawn in 6–9 months.
  • The green dye will fade within 1–5 days. This is normal and does not indicate washout.
  • Avoid foot or pet traffic on the newly seeded area for at least 6 weeks.

Watering Schedule

  •   Water 2–3 times daily for 15–25 minutes per session.
    • Recommended times: 4:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 4:00 PM.
    • Do NOT water after dark.
  • Keep soil moist but not soaked—avoid standing water or puddling.
  • Adjust for seasonal changes: Increase watering in hot months; reduce in cooler ones.
  • After 4–6 weeks, you may gradually reduce watering.

Fertilizing Schedule

  • 2 weeks after hydroseeding: Apply a starter fertilizer (e.g., 18-24-12).
  • 3 weeks later: Apply a second round of starter fertilizer.
  • You may do this yourself, or H2 Grow can provide fertilizing services upon request.
  • Do not apply weed control for the first 10–12 weeks.

Mowing Guidelines

  • First mowing should take place around 5–6 weeks after hydroseeding.
  • Mow only when the lawn is dry to protect new seedlings.
  • You may pause watering for 1–2 days before mowing to allow the soil to firm up.
  • Leave clippings on the lawn—except do not leave clumps, as they may smother young grass.
  • Never remove more than 1/3 of the grass height in a single mowing.
  • If the lawn becomes overgrown, mow gradually every 2–3 days until it reaches ~3" height.

Uneven Growth is Normal

  • Some areas may fill in faster due to differences in sun, shade, and water.
  • After 4–5 weeks, you may scratch and reseed thin areas by hand for a fuller lawn.

Weed Control

  • Some weed growth is normal during the establishment period.
  • You can apply a weed-control fertilizer after 10–12 weeks, once the lawn is more mature.
  • H2 Grow does not guarantee against weeds.

What If It Washes Out?

  • If your hydroseed is washed away due to rain or other circumstances, we’ll return to reapply at 50% of the original cost.
